Decoder boards are required if the 1816 system expands beyond five relay boards. Order one 1881-010 Decoder Board for every eight relay boards added to the system after the first five relay boards. To determine the number of decoder boards required, subtract 5 from the total number of relay boards needed, then divide this number by 8 and round up to the nearest whole number: 23 - 5 = 18. 18 ÷ 8 = 2.25. Round up to 3. For 270 phone lines you will need 3 decoder boards.
